It is an often overlooked fact that Italy has the second biggest wine production in the world, behind France. Many of Italy’s wines are almost regional in nature, having been grown from some of the oldest and most ancient vines in the world, and from grape varieties that are rarely seen outside of Italy. The climate is temperate in the North trending to hot in the South, which can make a huge difference to the character of the wines produced. The current fashion for Pinot Grigio shows no sign of abating with discerning drinkers sourcing better quality estate bottled Pinots and the softer Pinot Blush.
